Using Kitchen Scraps as your start, add other items that layer carbon (browns) and nitrogen (greens) and you will have success.
Put in the layers of grass clippings, weeds, manure, coffee grounds and whatever else you have.

- 30:1 carbon to nitrogen is ideal
- Bacteria do most of the work decomposing
- Heat is proof of how active the microbes are
- Pathogenic bacteria die at 130-140F (55-60C)
